The ANTI New Year’s Resolution Manifesto

The ANTI New Year’s Resolution Manifesto

ok … let me just say :

I’m not against resolutions – if that’s what inspires you to be better.

.

.

I am all for writing down goals & aspirations.

And, if New Year’s resolutions are your ‘reset’ or your opportunity to start again,

then knock yourself out.

But …

…if a list of resolutions makes you feel inadequate or like somehow you lack, then “ain’t nobody got time for dat”

(to quote “Sweet Brown” – she is so worth watching here)

How about a new, breathtaking view on New Year’s Resolutions?

Instead of this?

.

resolutions

.

What bothers me (alittlealot) is the idea that something about us …

needs to be “fixed”.

.

.

Inherent in so many lists around resolutions is this assumption :

you didn’t get it right this year.

.

I am here to say :

.

yes you did

 .

and the overwhelming majority of New Year’s Resolutions fail anyway!

 … a staggering 88%

(or something like that)

(there is all kinds of interesting psychology explaining why most resolutions fail, but that’s not what I want to talk about here)

.

Perhaps they fail because we want to feel good about who we are.

Perhaps they fail because we crave knowing we are enough, as we are.

Perhaps because when we focus on the positive stuff we create the space for more positive.

Perhaps because feeling crappy feels…well, crappy.

.

if we make

…in this moment

…in our wounds

…in our imperfections

.

…and in our magnificence.

.

Have you ever heard the saying “what we focus on expands”?

I hear that one a lot. I don’t know who said it.

It sounds like something Buddha would say, right?

.

whoever said it

Try it for a day – wake up & focus on all that sucks & see how your day goes.

.

Or wake up and be grateful and open and choose to SEE all that is good and wonderful and see how that day goes - I bet they are miles apart.

.

Remember, there is a fundamental difference between an absence of negativity and being positive.

It’s like night & day.

.

.

So, why not focus on where you kicked ass 2013 ?

What did you do well?

.

“The Magnificence of Me” PDF download is a collection of what is

good & right about all of us.

.

It is also a place for you to add what is magnificent about you.

.

…because that is so much more inspiring than “you are broken, fix it”

.

Print it up. Add your own stuff.

Focus on what you want more of.

.

.

You-are-a-strange-and-magnificent-creature-and-you-have-enchanted-me-completely

.

Let’s get you started, shall we ?

Did you make someone feel important?

Did you tell someone the truth, lovingly?

Did you forgive yourself or someone else, even when it was easier not to?

Did you say “i love you” and mean it?

Did you have the courage to be seen, even when you wanted to hide?

.

You are magnificent

Now keep going by downloading your–>“The Magnificence of Me” Manifesto

  3. enoughness” for me is a state of mind that bestows itself on me when I set my ego aside.

This rarely happens ..but occurs more often now it as I catch on to the idea that I really am very comfortable in my own skin, when the ego pauses it’s incessant chatter.

My ego compares and insists that I “measure up”.
The “self” demands I push harder .. Try again, stand up be counted ,
    Achieve ,strive on and on.

The soul knows peace and harmony and is patiently waiting for me to learn the very thing that I try to teach .
In imperfection ( what is that anyway) we are perfect as we are !!
    It was always so.

    “Just be ”
    It really is enough.

  5. Hmmmm, love this. I stopped making resolutions years ago. I hated the disappointment of having to make the same ones over and over. But I love the idea of making a list at the end of the year of everything that went well, that I am grateful for…everyone kicks ass at least a little bit every year!! Thanks.

    • Thanks Kelli! We all kick ass in some way – trick is to figure that out. Have a wonderful holiday!
